Murder In The First Degree.
Sentence: Life Imprisonment Without The Possibility Of Parole
Decapitated an undercover police officer. Took over as leader of the G's when Keane had enough. Was briefly partners with Nino Schibetta. Works in the kitchen. Fed Nino glass with Ryan O'Reilly. Suffered serious withdrawls during the riots. Acrimonious relationship with Peter Schibetta, whom he first poisoned, then beat and raped. Goes through a sort of spiritual awakening at the end of the season, but is thought to have killed Jarrah (Wangler did) and is sent to the psych ward.
Miguel Alvarez: 97A413 Convicted February 3, 1997, assault with a deadly weapon; criminal mischief in the second degree. Sentence: 15 years. Up for parole in two.
Quick Facts: Sliced a guy's face for scratching his car. Stabbed in the chest on his first day at Oz. Father and grandfather both inmates at Oz. Had a son with his girlfriend Maritza (serving at Parker Women's.) The baby died, even after Alvarez tried to bargain with God by carving up his face and hands. Becomes the leader of the Latinos by end of first season. Relationship with Mukada is strained during "A Game of Checkers." Works in the hospital. Knows who raped Glynn's daughter, won't pony up the names though. Decides to pluck the eyes out of a CO at El Cid's behest to regain some respect, is sent to solitary for the deed in "Escape from Oz."
Speculation - He still knows who hospitalized Glynn's daughter, will he use that info as bargaining fodder to get out of solitary?
Tobias Beecher: 97B412 convicted July 5, 1997, driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter. Sentence: 15 years. Up for parole in four.
Quick facts: Former lawyer. Killed Cathy Rockwell while driving drunk. Wife Genevieve and three kids. Wife first divorced him, then killed herself. Has a strong bond with Sister Peter Marie. Became addicted to "tits" while under Schillinger's control. Freaked out and broke a window, nearly blinding the other man. Went a bit mad, bit off the tip of a guy's penis. Likes to rhyme. Began a relationship with Keller, who in turn dumped him and broke his arms and legs with Schillinger's help.
Speculation - He fought back before, and looked pretty pissed off while lying in the hospital bed. Is he gonna finally take down the evil Schill?
Shirley Billinger bitch who's on Death row for killing her kids. Flirts with Adebisi by passing notes, but when she meets him in person, is distraught and calls him a nigger. Let's fry this whore and end this storyline, huh?
Agamemnon Busmalis: 98B242 Convicted March 10, 1998; Grand Theft Larceny, Breaking And Entering. Sentence: 10 Years, Up For Parole In 4
Digs a tunnel out of Oz with Rebadow, but it is used by a couple of Nazi's who are crushed in it.
El Cid: 98H492 Convicted July 10, 1998. Murder In The Second Degree. Sentence: 36 Years, Up For Parole In 20.
(Raul Hernandez) Instantly takes over as leader of Latinos upon arrival. Commands Alvarez to do the eye-plucking bit to prove he's not "too white."
Donald Groves: 97G414 Convicted July 3, 1997;
(2 Counts) Murder In The First Degree.
Sentence: Life Imprisonment Without The Possibility Of Parole
Ate his mother, was saving his father for Thanksgiving. Attends mass because taking host is "eating his flesh." Becomes enraptured with Said's speaking, and decides he must kill Warden Glynn for Said. He kills a CO instead and is executed by firing squad for the deed.
Augustus Hill: 95H522 Convicted, November 6, 1995, possession of illegal substances; murder in the second degree. Sentence: life imprisonment, up for parole in twenty years.
Quick Facts: Former crack addict. Shot a cop while trying to escape a bust. Thrown off a roof, ended up in his chair. Has a wife. He's our narrator. One of the more agreeable inmates at Oz. Was noticeably shaken after the riots when the musician, Dobbins, ended up stabbed and dead. Said tried to get his conviction reversed on the grounds that his judge did NOT offer to take bribes from him while taking bribes from others. Hill made Said drop the case because "The hope is killing me." He became consumed with the idea of escape, and put himself in a coffin to try and shuttle out of Oz in "Escape."

Jazz Hoyt: Convicted August 12, 1998;

Sentence: 8 Years,
Up For Parole In 4. orchestrates the collection of funds for Rebadow's grandson.
Jefferson Keane: 97K186 a.k.a. Tizzie Ouzou
Convicted May 14, 1997;
(2 Counts) Murder In The First Degree.
Sentence: Life Imprisonment Without The Possibility Of Parole. A gangster. Orders the hit on Ortolani. Gets married to girlfriend Mavis while in Oz. Converts to Islam. Kills two latinos in the gym (in self defense) and is sentenced to death. Refuses any help because he wants the killing to stop, and figures if he dies, it will. His sister needs a kidney, so he gives her his, and then becomes the first inmate executed in the state in over 30 years.
Chris Keller: 98K514 Convicted June 16, 1998; Felony Murder (2 Counts), Attempted Murder, Assault With A Deadly Weapon, Robbery, Driving While Under The Influence,
Reckless Driving. Sentence: 88 Years Up For Parole In 50.
Quick Facts: Divorced, several times, several times from the same woman. Knows Schillinger from a previous stint in a different prison. Likes to wrestle. To repay Schillinger, he agrees to manipulate Beecher into caring about him, then dumps him and does him serious bodily harm. Didn't that look like an expression of remorse after he did the awful deed though?
Antonio Nappa: 98N744 Convicted June 4, 1998;
Murder In The Second Degree.
Sentence: 80 Years,
Up For Parole In 50. Takes over for Peter Schibetta as head of wiseguys. Does lots of schemeing, wants to take down Adebisi and arranges to have Jarrah killed by Wangler by offering the other G's a deal if they dump Adebisi and work for him.
Cyril O'Reilly: 98P284 Convicted July 1, 1998;
Murder In The First Degree.
Sentence: Life,
Up For Parole In 60 Years. in his brother's words, is "slow." He got that way by trying to defend Ryan in a fight at a funeral home. Murdered Preston Nathan on Ryan's request. Raped by Vern upon arrival in Oz. Transferred to Em City.
Quick facts: Freaked out and drove drunk when he found out his brother Cyril was brain damaged. Tried to weasel his way into the good graces of Nino Schibetta, then turned around and fed him glass. Got Beecher riding the horse. Doesn't have a set clique, will buddy up with nearly anyone to get himself ahead. Got breast cancer, fell in love with Dr. Nathan. Had his brother (Cyril) murder her husband. To help protect his brother who subsequently got sent to Oz, or in a fit of conscience, he admits to arranging the murder.
Dino Ortolani: 96C382 Convicted December 12, 1996.

Sentence: Life Imprisonment Without The Possibility Of Parole
We discover Oz through this guy. He teaches us the routine. He's a wiseguy. Beats up Billy Keane for hitting on him in the shower. Then kills an AIDS patient, not out of hate, but mercy. While in the hole, is burned alive by the G's in retaliation for Billy Keane, at his brother, Jefferson's request.
Poet, aka Arnold Jackson, 96J332, 98J442 First time in: Convicted February 15, 1996.

McManus and Said work in tandem to get Poet released due to his published book. They are successful, but Poet kills a guy while at a book signing after spending all his money on crack and ends up back in Oz. Second time in: Convicted July 20, 1998.

Sentence: 26 Years,

talks to God. Tries unsuccessfully to escape in the first season, ends up scared and confused. Digs a hole with the Mole in the second season. Has a grandson with leukemia on the outside whose dying wish is to go to Disneyland. In one of the more human moments in Em City, all the other inmates donate money to get the kid to see Mickey Mouse.
pals with Vern. Rode in the same gang as Whittlesey's ex, knew her on the outside. Convinces her to start bringing in cigarettes which he can sell. Gets shot during the riots, in the head, in the heart, and in the groin. That pretty much kills him, but it is his murder that brings about major complications the next season.
Quick Facts: Burned a white owned warehouse. Devout Muslim, and famous writer and leader. Converted Jefferson Keane to Islam. Was instrumental in arranging Poet's release. Suffers from hypertension, had a heart attack. Led the riot. Undertook cases on behalf of Augustus and Schillinger. Interesting dynamic between he and McManus. Was offered clemency, which he publicly refused.
Speculation: Is he THAT idealistic, or is he just nuts?
Nino Schibetta: 95S604 Convicted December 12, 1995.
Conspiracy To Commit Murder, 2 counts.
Sentence: 120 Years,
up For Parole In 70 Head of the wiseguys. Has killed and his penis cut off in retaliation for Dino Ortolani's murder. His wife dies. When all his "pals" are transferred out of Em City, he befriends Adebisi and O'Reilly, who then feed him glass to kill him.
Peter Schibetta: 98S112 Convicted May 19, 1998.
Extortion, 5 counts;
Money Laundering.
Sentence: 35 Years,
up For Parole In 20. Nino's son. Takes over for his father. Has infromation about Glynn's brother committing a murder which he uses to regain power for the wiseguys. Gets poisoned, beaten, and raped by Adebisi. Starts talking to his dead father, is kicked out of power by the family, and ends up in the psych ward.
Quick facts: Beat up a drug dealer. Has two sons on the outside. Leader of the Aryan Brotherhood. Works the mail room, currently resides in Gen Pop. Immediately dug his hooks into Beecher upon his arrival. Some of his highlights include branding a swastika onto Beecher, making him "perform" at the Christmas show, literally crucifying a defrocked priest, raping Cyril O'Reilly. Got his parole hearing revoked when Beecher tricked him into trying to kill him. Worked in conjunction with Keller to drive Beech completely mad. Broke Beech's arms and legs in "Escape," but everyone in Em City seemed pretty pissed off at him for doing it.
Robert Sipple: 88S510 Convicted March 10, 1988.
Sexual Abuse In The Second Degree.
Sentence: 15 Years,
up For Parole In 10 a priest who molested a boy. Upon release, he can find neither work nor a place to live. Father Mukada takes mercy upon him and hires him. He is then crucified (literally) by Schillinger.
Jackson Vayhue Was Augustus' hero, scored 58 points against the Bulls. Tit addict who pressures Hill into snorting again. He then smashes Dobbin's cello, but carries Dobbins to safety during the riot.
Kenneth Wangler : 97W566
Convicted July 6, 1997.

Quick facts: Was trying to steal another kid's jacket, and ended up shooting him dead. Only 16 years old when sent to Oz. He's a G, in Adebisi's group. Addicted to tits. Adebisi nearly killed him during the riot while jonsin. Struggled and learned to read in the second season. Wasn't allowed to participate in the graduation ceremonies. Killed Jarrah by stabbing him, then laid the blame on Adebisi.
Lenny Buranno: Some sort of prison investigator/advisor or something. He's not quite on the up and up. Pretty much works for the wiseguys as a source of inside information to them about the goings on from the administrative standpoint. He helped arrange drug testing to slow down Adebisi, and also informed Peter Schibetta that the family didn't want him in charge anymore.
Warden Leo Glynn: Was somewhat pushed around by the wiseguys for a while because they had information about his brother committing a murder. He made his brother turn himself in to get out from under Peter Schibetta's control. His daughter was severely raped by a group of Latinos, and he takes it out on Alvarez.
Carl Metzger: Nazi Co who assists Verne in "Escape" with all his nefarious undertakings.
Rivera: Co who gets his eyes plucked out by Alvarez in "Escape."
Diane Whittlesey: Co in Em City. Has a daughter, Didi, and mother. Briefly dated Tim McManus. Shot and killed Scott Ross during the riots after trying to end their cigarette selling business without much success. Transferred out of Em City.

Kareem Said, a/k/a Goodson Truman: 97S444 Convicted June 6, 1997. Arson in the second degree. Sentence: 18 years, eligible for parole in five.
Vernon Schillinger: 92S110 Convicted October 21, 1992. Aggravated assault in the first degree. Sentence: eight years, up for parole in five.
HACKS
Tim McManus: Inventor of Cell Block 5, aka, Emerald City. Grew up in upstate New York, and apparently Attica had a huge effect on him. Archnemesis- Governor Devlin. Divorced. Had a brief fling with both Dr. Gloria Nathan and Diane Whittlesey. Was shot during the riot. Tries to work in conjunction with Said for the sake of certain prisoners, although they have a rather antagonistic relationship. Seems to have suffered severe disillusionment after the riots, although he had given more than hints of cracking before them too. His major crux in season two was trying to reconcile his feelings about Diane after knowing that she probably killed Scott Ross during the riots. He wouldn't roll over on her, but did transfer her out of Em City.
Father Ray Mukada: At one time seemed destined for greatness, was hand picked for duties by the cardinal. He crossed the cardinal and got his career wrecked and sent to Oz. Helps Alvarez a lot. Got pissed off when Alvarez wouldn't help him during the riots. Helped Sipple even though he really didn't want to at first.
Gloria Nathan: Doctor in the hospital. Briefly dated Tim McManus. Husband, Preston, was murdered by Cyril O'Reilly at his brother's request.
Sister Peter Marie: Psychologist, drug counselor, and nun. Briefly quit Oswald to protest the death penalty. Glynn rehired her. Voted sexiest by the inmates. Discovered who her husband's killer was by figuring out cryptic messages spoken to her by William Giles, a solitary confined, oral hygiene obsessed, older prisoner.
